CAPACITY BUILDING
Latica Mladina
March 30, 2024
Latica Mladina conducted the third Capacity Building session in Split during the exchange between the two rugby teams. Upon the arrival of the young players from Rome’s Primavera Rugby team in Croatia, they directly engaged with the Croatian players from Nada Ragbi Klub, who actively participate in the FRIDAS project. They also interacted with artist John Cascone, movement curator Andrea Pangallo, and psychologist Latica Mladina. The psychologist designed targeted activities for this meeting, which built upon the Capacity Buildings previously conducted.
The Capacity Building started with the activity Let’s Meet Together, where participants chose a partner from the opposing team. Initially, the focus was on identifying commonalities, followed by discussions on differences. Subsequently, each participant chose someone they wished to know better, introducing their partner to the group while learning their favorite rugby move. Groups of six then formed, with each member introducing their partner to the group, who remained present throughout the workshop.
In the second activity, Powerful Together – Spaghetti Tower, the formed groups faced the challenge of constructing the tallest tower possible using spaghetti. Participants were encouraged to reflect on the concept of inclusion during this activity, considering how the absence of a team member might impact them.
During the final session with psychologist Latica Mladina, the young players were tasked with jotting down actions to promote inclusion, both on and off the rugby field. They then selected one activity from Start-Stop-Continue for further elaboration.
Finally, the young players articulated what rugby signifies to them. From this list, they selected a word to craft a Message for the World, encapsulating their sentiments about the sport.
